Activities:
The goal of this week is to "connect" with each other on a personal level. We have chosen to focus on an asynchronous model, as it is the most difficult format to establish a connection between students. Hopefully, the activities will give us all a chance to get to know each other a bit better, and we can have some fun along the way. Thanks to Mareike for creating our Facebook group. This is a perfect way to connect. If you have not joined yet, please do so.
1. Readings - located in the "Resources" link on the bottom right. Chapter 6 of Online and Social Networking Communities is the only mandatory reading. The videos are optional, but interesting to view two opposing perspectives. The additional readings are also optional.
2. Your Page under "Profile" on the right. If the following instructions are unclear, please refer to Ben or Wendy's page as they are completed.
- Please post three links that represent either hobbies or interests of yours. Give a brief written description below the link.
- Create a voki and discuss how the links represent you at www.voki.com. Instructions for creating a Voki are here. Please comment on two pages that your peers have created.
Your comments can be related to any aspect of the page you would like. If you want to make it fun and creative, comment with a voki, or any other tool you like that may add interest.
3. Twitter activity - Please make an effort to contribute two tweets a day using the hashtag oltd503.2
Your tweets can be about anything - What are you doing? Where are you? What is happening? Anything! If you feel like you have nothing to say, take a twitpic, its worth a thousand words!
This is very casual and completely asynchronous. Let's get to know one another.
4. D2L Discussion Board - Anytime this week, please post your response to the question/s:
What are strategies or tools that you use in you DL class to help create a sense of "connection" for your asynchronous students? (DL teachers, please share your expertise!)
or
What do you think might help to establish that "connected" feeling for students in an asynchronous class?
If you have not taught in a DL classroom, your posting can be engagement in the DL teacher's threads.
